Celebrating Success in Agricultural Training and Education.

We are delighted to announce that on 6 May 2026, Kate Mason was awarded the Women in Agriculture Education and Training Woman of the Year Award.

Throughout her career, Kate has supported more than 40,000 learners, helping to improve access to agricultural training and create opportunities for people to develop the skills and qualifications they need to progress. Reflecting on what has driven her throughout her career, Kate said:

"The thing that has always driven me is seeing somebody who has had no qualifications end up with something at the end of training that can help them on the next chapter of their life."

Kate also highlighted the importance of practical skills within agriculture and the role that independent training providers can play in supporting the industry. "It does make a difference to the industry because the agricultural colleges can’t always give them the practical skills that are necessary to help them when they come out of college."

Kate began her career nearly 40 years ago with a local agricultural training board group. In 2009, she diversified the family farm, establishing Vale Training Services Ltd, providing practical, industry-focused training to the agricultural and land-based sectors.

Today, Kate, along with her colleagues Laura and Jess, continues to support learners across the industry, helping individuals build confidence, gain qualifications and develop the skills needed for the next chapter of their working lives.

There are no entry requirements for BASIS Soil & Water, however achieving the FACTS qualification before starting this course will benefit all candidates.
